A lot of SUVs out there look like they were born yesterday. Frankly, some of them were. Fortunately, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited at Robert Loehr Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Cartersville, GA has a longer bloodline rooted in the military off-roaders that led to the original SUV. Its lineage dates back to service vehicles in World War II that helped the Allies beat the Axis. The new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited brings that bulletproof off-road legacy along with it.
The truly macho Jeep Wrangler Unlimited retains much of that classic, retro Jeep design, so you know it means business off-road, off-trail, off the map. You can still get it as a 2-door but isn't the more spacious 4-door a lot more practical? As good as this SUV is in the wild, it provides some of the comforts of civilization, including optional Nappa-trimmed leather seating and advanced safety systems as you travel from Rome to Rockmart, GA. (Sorry about all that luxury. Trust us, it won't happen again.)
Performance: Limitations have officially been removed
It wouldn't be much of a Jeep without four-wheel drive, so all 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited models have it, along with some virile engine choices. A gas V6 comes standard, but you can drive a perfectly credible turbocharged four-cylinder, or a V6 with a moderate amount of hybrid help, or an aggressive V6 diesel that takes no prisoners. But never fear, Jeep lovers around Adairsville and Cedartown, GA, there's one more option.
At the very top of the Wrangler Unlimited power ladder is the recently-introduced, truly fearless gas V8 engine that Jeep Wrangler advocates have been advocating for. It comes in a limited-edition version of the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 and it's the ultimate in Wrangler power. The 6.4L V8 comes at the world with 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The result is a zero-to-60 time of just 4.5 seconds. We can already hear Jeep fans applauding.
The Interior: Not intended for nap time
The 4-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has room for up to five. Be forewarned that, while this Wrangler is built to accommodate families, nobody is going to get pampered. That's not what this Jeep is about. In most models, door locks are manual, windows are hand-cranked and there's no power adjustment for seats.
Even in the more upscale models with power windows, switches are located somewhat inconveniently on the front console, not on the doors. And that's on purpose. Doors are removeable, and this Wrangler is built with the assumption that you will wash out the dirty, filthy, muddy, sandy interior with a high-pressure hose after running around all day in sand dunes and high water. Hope that's OK with you because it's great for hard-core Jeep fans.
At the high end, if you can forgive us, we do offer a little luxury
The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is the highest point in the line and it comes with several un-Jeep-like amenities like LED lighting, a full range of safety features and, gasp, genuine, all-leather upholstery. With quad exhaust pipes it still has plenty of attitude, but you have to accept the idea of roughing it less than you know you should.
